домовой, барабашка, полтергейст

в русском есть несколько определении одного и того же явления, с различной смысловой окраской. Барабашка, домовой - добрый дух-хранитель дома, полтергейст - беспокойный дух, опять же, обитающий в доме. Какие существуют английские соответствия этим понятиям?

Ну домовой - brownie или house spirit. Про полтергейста сказали. Думаю, они различают так же, как мы - домовой с позитивным оттенком, шумный дух - оответственно, нет.

I don't know about барабашкаs and домовойs. Boggarts don't seem to correspond precisely to these, but they're household spirits too. But Wikipedia says they're "[a]lways malevolent".

Если мне память не изменяет, слово "барабашка" дебютировало в статье газеты "Московский Комсомолец" в конце 80-х годов прошлого века, не рановато ли его в корпус великого и могучего включать? ;)

Барабашка - это такой себе "семейный дух". В древней Греции их называли "гениями". Если кто-то приходил к кому-то в дом с подарочком, то обычно и что-то дарил "гению" этого дома, там молочко дать попить или что-то в таком стиле.
